Brew Guides for Every Coffee Experience

Preparing and enjoying a great cup of coffee is a pleasure, a simple task with rich rewards. Brewing coffee is like cooking with fresh produce: start with the best, freshest ingredients, take care to do it well, and you will create something astonishingly delicious.

Golden Rules For Brewing Coffee

Keep It Fresh

Use recently roasted whole-bean coffee, ground immediately before brewing.

Control Temperature

Brew with water heated to between 195º to 205º Fahrenheit or 90.56°C to 96.11°C.

Use Correct Ratio

Use one part coffee to 15–18 parts water. Start in the middle of this range and adjust to taste.

Care of Your Beans

Keep whole-bean coffee in an airtight container or bag out of direct sunlight, away heat, and moisture.

Grind Sizes

If your coffee tastes off, start by adjusting the grind size. Each brewing method requires a specific particle size based on the brewer’s shape and how water moves through the coffee. Even small changes to your recipe can affect extraction and may call for a grind adjustment. In general, fast brew methods with short contact times, such as espresso or AeroPress, benefit from finer grinds, while slower methods like French press perform best with a coarser grind.
